First off, we of course have to introduce a beer from Tokyo as it is a prime location for tourists.
While Tokyo is known for its bustling scene (Shibuya crossing, Robot Restaurant, packed subways, etc; the list really goes on and on…), there is more to meets the eye than that, and as our mission is to introduce locations that a typical tourist may be unfamiliar with, our pick for this post is “Kaguruzaka” which is within the Shinjuku ward (precinct).

Kagurazaka (神楽坂)
Station:
IIdabashi (Tozai line, Chuo-Sobu line, Yurakucho line, Nanboku line)
Kagurazaka (Tozai line)
Known for its narrow alleys, the Kagurazaka area stretches from Kagurazaka station towards IIdabashi station down the Kagurazaka-dori.
What to expect:
- Good food (wagashi)
- Wagashi is a general word for Japanese traditional sweets. Kagurazaka Saryo 神楽坂茶寮 and Baikatei 梅花亭 are some popular spots for locals.
- A pleasant stroll
- Try starting from Kagurazaka station, walk down Kagurazaka Dori until you reach and intersection with a Starbucks. Take the intersection right where you will get a beautiful view of dozens of sakura trees by Sotobori Moat.
- Awaodori festival (usually taking place in late July)
- A traditional dance festival originating in Tokushima prefecture in West Japan. Be sure to grab a beer and stop by food stands for some great festival food like yakitori.
